The Clowning Linguist: A Humor Workshop with Sarina Dorie

Speakers are previous Willamette Writers meetings have talked about humor in the past, and many members asked for more practical tips. So this month, we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty with author Sarina Dorie in a workshop on humor. The meeting is on October 3rd with doors open at 6:30PM at the Old Church in downtown Portland, with the speaker at 7 pm - 8 pm.

We’ll begin by learning how to identify and break down humor. We will practice juxtaposing words to create funny lists, use the element of surprise to tickle a reader’s sense of humor, and create puns and play with words by using techniques that stand-up comedians use.

The meeting is free to members of WW and $5 for guests.

Create A Hurricane & Wildfire Evacuation Kit for Your Family

Today, nine out of ten Americans live in places with significant risk of hurricanes, flooding, or other disasters like the wild fires in California. Tomorrow, some of us will have to make split-second choices to save our families and ourselves. How will we react? What will it feel like? Will we be heroes or victims?

The Family GoStayKit www.gostaykit.org provides a cost effective way of storing personal/medical information in case you are asked to leave your residence, or shelter-in-place in the event of a natural, or human-caused disaster. This emergency preparedness resiliency tool is also a necessity for vulnerable populations, seniors, families, or anyone wishing to have their personal/medical information at their fingertips.

Its waterproof pages contain (stored in plastic pouches) copies of important documents needed by medical professionals to diagnose and treat you. It also has personalized I.D. bands to help identify you and your belongings during an evacuation; HELP/OK door hangers, your pet’s information, Red Cross shelter intake forms, a window decal and refrigerator magnet so that first responders know you have a Go Stay Kit in your home, and a list of emergency supplies to have on hand, just in case.

The FAMILY GO|STAY|KIT contains—all in one place—vital personal data and copies of important documents needed by emergency responders and shelter intake workers, in case of a natural disaster or medical emergency. It’ll help caregivers and medical professionals assist those who are in need, by allowing them on-the-spot access to vital information that’ll help guide treatment.

The waterproof GO|STAY|KIT™ is the ultimate tool that’ll help vulnerable populations in a medical emergency or natural disaster like the #California #wildfires maintain control over their personal medical information.
