I asked a screenwriter I met in passing to read the writing personality types I've created, respond to them, then show me the first ten pages of a screenplay.
I made a wrong guess about who the main character was, which is not good.
When I teach a writing class and ask my students what their main character wants, many students are baffled by the question. They really don't know.
This leads to a diffuse opening.
